Help the Earth, Help Your Wallet

To our Revolutionnaires,

Sustainability in itself has many branches and a zero-waste lifestyle is one of them. This article expresses the simplest changes in your life that can help you and the Earth!.

What is Zero-Waste?

Zero-waste is a philosophy where products and materials are reused or reintroduced to our economic system, so hence there is no “waste”.

It’s All About a Choice

A zero-waste lifestyle is not impossible to achieve. Many people who practice this type of lifestyle start with small and simple changes that can result in a big impact. Think about it, wouldn’t you want to “be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Mahatma Ghandi.
Your life is determined each day by the decisions you make. So, if you had the option to save your planet and save money while at it, wouldn’t you want to get started ASAP?

1. Reusable water bottles
If you buy a water bottle every day, you can save over $1,000 each year just on water! Not to mention you should be drinking at least four of those daily if not more.
Each plastic bottle takes about 1,000 years (yes YEARS) to degrade or to break into tiny pieces yet it will not biodegrade, meaning it will harm wildlife and our environment forever (yes FOREVER). Not to mention many times, these bottles end up in our oceans largely affecting marine life and eventually entering our food stream.

2. Plastic free shampoo & conditioner
Luckily nowadays we are able to find plastic-free shampoo and conditioner bars online or at your local market made with super high quality ingredients.
Another option is DIY. While this might be a bit time consuming, shampoo and conditioner are quite easy to make. There are about a thousand recipes out on the internet for EVERY hair type. Including, less time-consuming ones. This is amazing because you know exactly what is going into your product, you are creating less waste, and you are saving money by not buying another plastic shampoo or conditioner bottle every couple of months or so.

3. Make-up removing towel
Switch out your make-up removing wipes or cotton balls for a reusable make-up removing towel. For many of us, this is something we use on a daily basis and it can save us a ton of money in the long-run while reducing toxic waste. Just throw the towel in the hamper and wash it with all your other clothes!

4. Beeswax wraps
Instead of using aluminum foil or plastic wrap using a beeswax wrap can increasingly help the planet. Simply buying about 10 of these wraps and reusing them continuously can improve your shopping habits.

5. Don’t buy what you don’t need
This one is a little straight forward, but it hits the point of shopping senselessly. The truth is that many things that we buy are not a need but a want. In this case, just being conscious about your purchasing decisions could even help the earth, your money, not to mention your precious closet space. Less can mean more.

Don’t Be Afraid to Start!

Living a zero-waste life might seem overwhelming, but at least you can start with a “lower-waste” lifestyle which can also allow you to really live a conscious life in many other aspects. Spending your money on the right things can have a tremendous impact on our planet and on you. Baby steps Revolutionnaires, you can do it!
